What We Stand For

PSAN exists to make sense of world events without either flattening them into a single storyline or drowning them in false balance. We think that’s a harder needle to thread than it sounds, and we don’t always get it right, but it’s the standard we’re aiming for with everything we publish.

We write from a perspective broadly sympathetic to socialism, among other traditions, as a way of understanding how power, wealth, and opportunity get distributed within a society. We think that perspective is useful. We don’t think it’s the only useful one, and we try not to force it onto subjects where it doesn’t actually fit.

Beyond that, our standards are fairly simple. Say what we actually think. Show our reasoning rather than just our conclusions. Correct ourselves when we get something wrong instead of quietly hoping no one notices. And treat readers as capable of handling a complicated, sometimes uncomfortable version of events rather than a simplified one.

That’s the whole mission, really. Everything else is just the day-to-day work of trying to live up to it.
